Supporting Grants and donations for this project
have been offered by CADW; Carmarthenshire County Council; Gwendoline
and Margaret Davies Charity; Mercers’ Charitable Foundation;
Garfield Weston Foundation; Jane Hodge Foundation; James Pantyfedwen
Foundation; Beatrice Laing Trust; Historic churches Preservation
Trust; Llangadog Community
Once the tower is repaired, future works planned
include: Putting in loos at foot of tower, near west door, converting
part of the main body of the church to a meeting room / kitchen
with storage area above. The meeting room will allow the Young
Church to meet at the same time as services in the main church
and it can be hired out to bring in more funds to pay the quota
and other costs. Our community, delivery men and visitors will
appreciate the inclusion of a loo as there are no public loos
in the village now, and the addition of a kitchen and food preparation
area will increase the use of the chuch for harvest suppers, Sunday
cream teas, and other social events. We hope to resite the organ,
or possibly replace it with a new smaller and more modern one,
to free up the central section of the church for concerts. You
will be pleased to know that replacing the heating system is high
on the agenda too!
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded a
grant of £13,000 for the development works (architects and
surveyors fees, etc) and £65,000 towards the cost of the
building repairs to the tower. CADW too will contribute £24,000
towards the external repairs, and Carmarthenshire Country Council
have promised £10,000.
If you would like to contribute, please make
a donation, however small, and come along regularly to see our
work progressing. We hope the buildingwork to repair the tower
will begin this autumn.
