Cadog Film Club

Cadog Film Club is now in its fourth year and the new season will start in October. The club’s aim is to provide our rural community with the opportunity to see films on a big screen without having to travel too far. We are based in Llangadog but many of our members come from the surrounding villages and towns.

From October to May we show two films a month. On the first Saturday of the month we have a simple supper, glass or two of wine or a soft drink before showing the film. Many of the members help setting up the equipment, the tables for food, laying out the food, running the bar, washing up etc. This makes the evening a very social occasion and gives us a chance to get to know each other better. At the Saturday Film Nights we try to show films which will appeal to most of the membership. Some of the films from last Season were, Casino Royale, Amazing Grace, The Painted Veil, La Vie en Rose, The Last King of Scotland, and Atonement. If you are at all interested in films you will have heard of most of those. On these evenings we usually have an audience of 40 to 50 members.

Last year we decided that it would be good to broaden the scope of the films we show. We therefore introduced a second monthly film night. We call this Film Buffs’ Night and it happens on the second Wednesday of the month. On Film Buffs’ Night we show less well known films. Usually there is a smaller attendance so we meet in a smaller hall, but still with the big screen. We don’t provide food or drink but you can bring your own wine and nibbles. On these evenings last season, we showed the highly acclaimed Lives of Others, Offside, Volver and Notes on a Scandal. Being a sociable lot, many of us have taken to going to a local hostelry afterwards to discuss the film and of course have a drink and even a bite of supper. Again it’s an opportunity to chat and get to know each other and exchange views and ideas.

Some of the films we hope to show in the coming season are The Edge of Love, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, The Kite Runner and Away From Her.

Membership for the year is only £5 but you do have to pay when you attend and for the Saturday film nights, members have to book in advance because of the catering. If you enjoy films and meeting people, this may be the club for you. If you are interested in joining the club or would like more information, please ring the secretary on 01550 777657 or email cadogfilmclub@aol.com
